Venn’s new startup Manager, Aïssa Azzouzi!

It is with great pleasure that Venn Innovation Inc. announces Aïssa Azzouzi as its new Manager, Startup Incubation Services.

Aïssa brings 35 years of experience as a transformational leader and entrepreneur to the Venn team. He has held senior positions in publicly listed companies in the professional services and not-for-profit sectors with operations around the world. During the past ten years, Aïssa has focused on developing incubation and acceleration programs, founding the program “Growth Train Africa” and advising and coaching start-ups, social entrepreneurs and NGOs in Denmark, United States and Morocco. His programs accelerated 15 start-ups between 2020 and 2023.
Aïssa also founded and was CEO of a fintech start-up which focused on high frequency/ intra-day trading systems and portfolio optimization allocation for online brokers. 

“We are so excited to welcome Aïssa to the team and to Atlantic Canada,” says Venn CEO Doug Robertson. “In today’s increasingly global, borderless economy, it is important for the founders we work with to have access to global knowledge and experience. October 15 - 21

October 15 – 21 is Small Business Week in Canada and Venn Innovation celebrates all entrepreneurs and small business owners and the hard-working people behind them! They are critical to our economy and it’s never been more important to support, build, and adapt local business infrastructures.
Here are just some of the reasons why small businesses are so important in Canada:
   - According to Statistics Canada, in 2021, small businesses made up 98.1% of all employer businesses in our country.
    - The Business Development Bank of Canada states that small businesses employed 88.3% of private sector workers in 2020, or about 10 million people.
   - Scotiabank's 2022 Path to Impact Report states that the current state of Canadian small businesses is reported to be 42% better, compared to two years ago.
   - The report also found that small business owners who identified as black, Indigenous, and people of colour reported doing 51% better than previous years.


So here’s to Canada’s small- and medium-sized businesses - have an amazing Small Business Week everyone!

NEW COURSES AVAILABLE TO INCREASE YOUR BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE

L’Université de Moncton is offering two new online courses to enhance businesses workforce knowledge:

- Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
- Introduction to Data Science

Attendance is part-time, 1 – 3 hours per week (can be done on weekends) and are offered in French only.
Courses begin Oct 30th, with another session starting in January, 2024.
Both courses are fully accredited, online and require a Bachelor’s degree.

The BlackArcs - Wins Most Promising Startup at ACADA
The Atlantic Canada Aerospace and Defence Awards (ACADA) recently held its Industry Excellence Awards dinner and presented The BlackArcs with its award for Most Promising Startup of Business Diversification! This innovative startup, based in Fredericton, NB, specializes in predictive analytics, providing digital twins of cities, to both government and corporations, to explore the comprehensive impacts of changes on built environments. This type of predictive analytics allows users to see risks and opportunities they didn’t know existed. BlackArc’s CEO, Jake Arsenault, dropped by the day after the dinner with his award and we are so happy for him and his entire team! Well done!


Gray Wolf Analytics - On the trail of global cyber crime
The U.S. business magazine, Forbes, recently led an investigation, with the assistance of New Brunswick crypto forensic firm Gray Wolf Analytics, to reveal the truth behind how one of the world’s largest crypto exchange - Binance - tried to raise capital in 2017 through an initial coin offering (ICO). Binance only sold one tenth of what it reported, but managed to leverage that failure into a billion dollar windfall. Fascinating reading - click here for the article.

inaugural medtech nb summit held in moncton

Venn Innovation was proud to help organize the inaugural MedTech NB Summit in Moncton on September 28th at the Delata Hotel Beausejour in Moncton. The goal of the event was to strengthen the medical technology ecosystem in our province, and it was a great success! We had a wonderful turnout for stimulating keynote speakers and inspiring presentations, pitches and panel discussions. We know that exciting innovations and initiatives will result from our coming together and sharing our ideas and look forward to seeing and hearing about new innovations for healthcare in our province.
